The Begining & End of May 2008

Mumbai Moorings
in May

It's been long since I updated my thoughts here. Now is the time.

These days I been reading a lot and writing a little but not online though. Luckily for me, it's been a nice summery month of May and in Bombay*(Mumbai) it hasn't been too harsh. Loads of indoor stay during the day and walks in the evenings.

The newspapers never cease to surprise me with their ways, views, advertisements and advertorials too. How one can buy editorial space was never taught at the school i went to, sadly.
Reading the solus adverts on DNA's front page makes me think what did the DNA group think when they were putting up this advert? Wonder why are they comparing themselves to an already established marketing blitzkrieg news house which they cannot take on in terms of numbers anyways.

The recent wave of actors blogging has taken Hindi film industry by storm and now everyone wants to adopt to the phenomenon called "Internet". I remember way back in 1997 when i first came face to face with an internet enabled pc at Rediff-On-The-Net, where one of my colleagues was chatting online with an eclectic set of people from across the world. In 2000 when a close friend was developing content for webzines I remember he telling me how the actors would ask for huge amounts of money to be a chat guest on websites.

Surprisingly the same people are now doing it for free through BLOGS. What a change. Great for the freedom of the net.

During the initial hoopla about the internet in India various websites were created and a whole lot of dreams were weaved online by actors. I recall Shahrukh Khan was amongst the earlier users of this powerful medium and srkworld.com was also created. Jackie Shroff used to be an avid blogger and updated it himself and was indeed interesting to know that few of these gentlemen were tech savvy. They all pulled it off after a few years.

Let's hope Amitabh Bachchan who has created history of sorts by blogging does stay online as he himself admits that the instant and free n fair opinions online are so challenging for him and guess he is addicted. Above all he is the MAN to look up to.

I haven't followed what Aamir Khan and others are saying on their blogs but Amitabh Bachchan surely has taken the whole bakery away with his no-nonsensical blogging. Its such a nice sight to see some one who was always known to be a diplomat (as the media would have reported and we cast an image of him) and to our surprise he has thrashed that media-concocted imagery and has been clawing every one who takes a swipe/dig at him or his family. Hats Off Mr. Bachchan.

Let Us All Keep Blogging!

I shall post more real soon....
