What is Really Wrong With Media in India...

Being a Media-holic I get all the leading Bombay-Mumbai newspapers english & hindi. The diverse spread is because I personally feel that if I need to know more about the city and the country at large I better get a wholesome dope else I never get to know much about other parts of India.

The local media has a certain quality which has been developed over the years.
If anyone wants to get to know the best advertisements published pick up The Bombay Times.
For hardcore news which will make you think pick up The Indian Express.
Variety of national issues DNA does it the best.
Scandalous hit for Mid-day which has gone down a few notches ever since Mumbai Mirror happened to be free for a majority of TOI subscribers!
Hindustan Times for bringing some really different issues which do matter in one's life.
For Hindi Navbharat Times is the paper.

On the news war amongst the TV channels I personally feel that some of them (TV media) should be brought to task for bringing some really sleazy stuff (NOT NEWSWORTHY AT ALL)into the living rooms of most of the Indian families who by the way own just one TV set which is mostly viewed by Women and Children.

I remember there was a Media blog call the Mediaah.com and some one famous was running it and he was FORCED to shut it down as it was getting too much for some of the Media Organisations.

In India where women are not treated well, men can go defecate anywhere, there is absoultely no respect for human life and where the Media is slowly becoming a force with all the freedom, how can some one pressurise some one to stop running a blog which openly discussed policies of Media Houses, work ethics, work culture and pay packages!

I did a bit of googling (searching on google!) and found out these informations that will clearly surmise to what I have been trying to put across.

One can read what had happened with FREEDOM of SPEECH and please do comment!

And this is why the Mammoth Media Garangutan try to gag www.mediaah.com

http://mediaha.blogspot.com/

Isn't it too sad?

And then there is another blog which does comment on the Indian Media.

http://presstalk.blogspot.com/

I shall try and post more on Media's role in Mumbai specifically in my next post.

Let Media Be Free, But Let Indians Be Free FIRST!

The Mumbai Bal & Raj Thackerays Mudslinging Match

How to spot a Bihari Brawn - Learn Bal Thackeray style

Aftermath of the last month parochialism in Mumbai's atmosphere doesn't seem to disappear as the morning smog, instead it stays and engulfs more and more men into it's devious suction mechanics.

In a major U-turn from the ambiguous support which was extended to the people from Up North of the Nation, the erstwhile Bal 'Tiger' Thackeray has now blamed the Biharis of being "unwanted" across the Nation.

www.saamna.com

That is Thackeray Sr.'s webspace and a vernacular print tabloid published from Mumbai (just a few thousand copies) but he has a knack of making absurdities as headlines since 1960's.

Here in his editorial dated 6th March 2008, Thackeray states that Bihari is a bimari. He adds that all the elected representatives from Bihar are nothing but goons and criminals.

Ignoring the two - Uncle and Nephew would have been the best way to avoid whatever happened but as it was destined to occur things now have a risk to turn into something ugly in the coming days.

The Members of Parliament have lodged a formal complaint in a Privilege Motion with the Speaker of the Lok Sabha stating that Bal Thackeray should be prosecuted for slurring on the MP's !

If proven Bal Thackeray would have to hear it all inside the Lok Sabha!

Meanwhile in Mumbai & New Delhi as usual CM of Maharashtra V R Deshmukh says that he is seeking legal opinion.

While the legal eagles state that its a clear cut divisive statement and even if its an editorial (as in Press Media) he can be booked under the Law of the Land.

But once again it remains to be seen who bells the cat?

May the mouse in tiger's clothing roar before the final call.

The Great so called "Indian" Cricket Tamasha!

I WANT TO NAME MY COMPANY'S PRODUCT AS INDIA AS BCCI! CAN I?

Having been fooling millions of Indians (as I don't believe that a billion Indians watch this sport) for a very very long time, Board of Cricket Control India should come clean and stop saying that their cricket team is a NATIONAL TEAM representing India as a country!

They have openly made tamasha of the sport and turning it into a money-making racket with all the populist measures and in turn doing nothing for society.

Run by rich people it has always been a means to earn more and more and one has never heard of BBCI making any role in the development of the nation at large.

It's disgusting to see how they ran down the newly launched Indian Cricket League as if they own Indians and their cricketing!!!

They could not see any body taking away the moolah from right down their noses! They banned the star cricketer of India, ex-skipper Kapil Dev from BCCI and all of the games!

Imagine the guts BBCI struts off. WHY?

Because they know that cricket is an addiction in India. One sporting event people make any excuse to stay back to watch the game. Ridiculous but true.

Here are a few of the links where BCCI has been pulled many a times but as they have a huge bank balance and can influence anyone in this nation they have always gone scot free. Now they have met their nemesis in ICL.

This link talks of the BCCI v/s CBI
http://www.rediff.com/cricket/2000/dec/08bcci.htm

This above mentioned article is a case where the CBI was looking into the money-making racket being run by BCCI in the garb of exerting players to play more than stipulated so they could make money!

Delhi HC to hear case against BCCI in March

The Delhi High Court will resume hearing on March 1 a public interest case filed last year against alleged lack of transparency in the national cricket board's activities, lawyers said on Wednesday.

Two cricket fans filed the case in April last year seeking greater openness in the Board of Control for Cricket in India election procedures and financial accounts.

The case, due to be heard on Wednesday, was postponed after government lawyers said they needed time to prepare their arguments against the accusations.

"We wanted to file some affidavits and asked the court for more time," a BCCI lawyer said.

Lawyer Rahul Mehra and businessman Shantanu Sharma named the government, the BCCI and the Delhi and District Cricket Association in their petition before the Delhi High Court.

The petition stated that BCCI spent only 1.1 per cent of the money it earned and 2.2 per cent of its total expenditure in 1998-99 on coaching.

The petition added that South Africa spent 20 times that amount on coaching in the 1998-99 season.

Mehra said the court had asked the board to clarify the points raised in the petition.

The Indian board had argued that since it was an autonomous body, it was not obliged to respond to a writ petition.

"They get income tax exemption, benefits from the government and the team selected by them is called the Indian national team. Under these grounds, we have stated a writ petition can be maintainable against them," Mehra said.

Next on the list is the current dialogues/discussions/debates which
state that BCCI is not liable to tell anyone (common man) any details
of their acts as they are a private body.

Enjoy cricket, don’t pose nasty queries

You have cheered them on, contributed to their salary by watching them play and even cried at their defeat. But as a cricket fan, you do not have the right to know what went wrong with Team India in the 2007 World Cup.

The three tell-all reports submitted to the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) on Friday by the team’s coach, captain and manager would not be released to the public. Only “select” portions from them were disclosed by BCCI secretary Niranjan Shah in a concise two-page statement.

“It is shocking that the BCCI earns crores of rupees by selling sponsorship and television rights valued on the basis of public viewership, and yet it is not answerable to the very people,” said Amitava Athle, a cricket enthusiast. Cricket fans even called up this newspaper to inquire if the Right to Information (RTI) Act could be used to access the reports.

According to RTI activist Shailesh Gandhi, the information Act could only be used to obtain information from a government body, which is one controlled or financed by the government. BCCI, a 79-year-old autonomous body registered under the Societies Registration Act, 1860, does not fall into this category.

Next you get to read the actual politics behind the BCCI and ICL - highly recommended reading!

Again a well versed cricket fan writes:
http://mutiny.in/2007/09/15/bcci-vs-icl/

All the numerous criticism of BCCI goes to show how they have managed to keep us Indians in a belief that the team we see on the ground is indeed our NATIONAL TEAM!

WHAT A FARCE!

Shun BCCI !

Shun Cricket!

Concentrate on Hockey! 18 Goals our NATIONAL TEAM scores and NOWHERE but in a nondescript sports page it gets a mention!!!!!

WHAT LUCK they didn't OMIT the NEWS!

WOW - What sops for farmers.. in The Budget 2008-09

WHAT IS THE WHOLE TRUTH BEHIND THE SOPS FOR FARMERS IN THIS BUDGET BY P.CHIDAMBARAM - FINANCE MINISTER OF INDIA

While India moves on to compete with the best in the world in terms of products, services and economy in 2008-2009 we have had a superb sounding Budget with lots of sops for the common Indian.

I don't deny that I am not happy with the budget but a few questions crawl up everytime I see the budget and the agenda with which it has been produced in a year when India shall go to polls.

Rs.60,000 crores (10Lakhs =1Million) has been waived off for the small farmers who have taken loans and who have no more than 5 acres of land under cultivation and who cannot pay back the debt from the various banks.

But who will fund the whole waiver? How will Mr. P. Chidambaram, the maverick Finance Minister has devised this huge number?

He doesn't tell us nor the Indian Parliament how he plans to do this? By June 30, 2008 he says all the banks shall have this money!

www.southasiatimes.in/current_news/loan-waiver-will-not-lead-to-collapse-of-banks-fm/

Here one can read what the FM says and how he can pull it off!

Unimaginable but true!

If the Congress goes ahead with their signing the Indo-US Nuclear Deal then India goes to poll before this summer.

So I wonder if the elections happen we shall never see the waiver really happen; as in it shall never go down well to the needy farmer who deserves this help.

But now there are more issues... How we build an agrarian society which does not take lives of the people of India.

We should also work out something on those lines.

Keep Hope....
